The Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowling League had success at the Meole Brace Open on Saturday despite the cold weather. Castlefields’ Leighton Roberts got through again, after doing so at St Georges, beating Michael McDonnell, Kiah Roberts and former League player Pete Farmer 18 in his qualifier. Windmill’s Kevin Handley will meet Leighton in the last 32 after he beat Martin Lloyd, Paul Leah and Rich Goddard 16. Aaron Tapper from M&B Cheslyn Hay had a fine win over Simon Coupe 20 in his second game against getting past Tommy Lowndres in his first game. He also had an impressive scalp in his qualifier after defeating former winner Wayne Rogers 10. Tom Palmer who played for Three Magpies last season also got through by getting past Tonny Cunningham, Reece Farr and Willenhall Nordley’s Dan Bodley 14. Dan’s team mate Paul Evans was unlucky to dip out 20 to Andy Thornton.
