Castlefields & The George through at BCGBA World Club Championships

Castlefields and the George both got through session 4 of the BCGBA World Club Championships at Fox Lane in Leyland. Castlefields recovered from 17 down against Birches Head Hotel after three games off to have the last 5 winners and win by 26 overall, Adam Jones winning 6 and Andy Duckett 9. They took on Pudsey from Yorkshire in their second game on the smaller green and were comfortable winners. They led by 18 off four games with Jon Palmer the best 21-10, and then held on with three winners at the back to extend their victory to 24.

The George were on the other green and beat Broughton & Bretton by 38 with captain Elliot McGuinness and Paul Hemming leading the way winning 7. They then faced Willenhall Nordley, who had beaten Eastwood Park by 22, largely thanks to Ross Edwards winning 2. It was a close game as the George led by just 4 after the first four games thanks to Marc Wilson’s 12 win. But the George took three of the final four cards, with Russ Prosser the best 11, to take the game by 14, despite Mark Hall winning 12 for Nordley.

Stretton Anglesey had lost to Pudsey first game by 22 after just having two winners, Conor Chamberlain 15 and Rich Worthington 17.
