Four of our teams in BCGBA World Club Championship

Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League sides the George, Willenhall Nordley, Stretton Anglesey and Castlefields head to the World Club Championships tomorrow. Castlefields have won the competition in its previous guise as the Club Championships in 1993, 1997 and 2005 to be the joint highest winners. They head to Fox Lane in Leyland hoping for better fortune then they did two years ago at the same venue when they lost first round. Castlefields have a new captain this year and Alan Peach is “really looking forward to it.” They play Birches Head Hotel, full of Potteries County players, and know they will have a tough test even though Alan “personally doesn’t to much about them but the players will because they enter lots of competitions. If we can win the first game that will be good. We have a good squad and it would be good for Shropshire if we won it again.” They play on green no.1 first and if successful they will take on Stretton Anglesey from Derbyshire or Pudsey from Yorkshire. Stretton Anglesey are newcomers to the league and have a side packed full of Derbyshire county players. Captain Paul Chamberlain explains “that being called off the 1st time around did us a favour because we wouldn’t have played very much. We will be competitive I reckon and hopeful we can get through. Pudsey will have a good side which could include Josh & Chris Mordue and Tom & James Hanson so I expect a tough game.”

Willenhall Nordley play Eastwood Park from Derbyshire and joint captain Scott Simpson is “confident of being able to shock a few sides and are buoyed from a strong result on Penn which will only lift confidence. We have a very good squad and are unfortunate that we are without Dan Bodley but whoever replaces him will be good enough to do a job. We had a good 3 winners against Parkfield on the little green which is where we start tomorrow so having 8 players who have played it will be a bonus. The George take on Broughton & Bretton who will have some Welsh county players in it. The two winners of those two games will then meet each other in the qualifying round.

Summit Garage and the league would like to wish all our teams all the best.
