West Brom FSC earn surprise away win, Tanworth earn good start

West Brom FSC earned a fabulous away win on Dudley Dell in Gameweek 1 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They shared the winners but won the aggregate by 7 thanks to single figure wins by Andy Saunders and Jason Cooke 8. Captain Greg Smith said “it was a tremendous away win for us following their great home form last season and a few changes to our side. Two real quality performances from Jason Cooke (MVP) and Rob Carter as well as new signing Nicky Brooks on his first visit to the Dell with an impressive win. We hope to build on this result next week.” Best winner for the Dell was Peter Withey 11, which earned him MVP. Tanworth In Arden are joint top with West Brom as they beat The George 8-2. Skipper Stuart Bishop acknowledged it was a “good home performance starting with 3 winners in the first 4, Elliot McGuinness responding for the George (to be best winner 13). The 2nd four was evenly matched games with 3 going to Tanworth and Ryan Prosser finding a great bowl to beat Barry Maskell 19 (and also won MVP). Some quality bowling at the death of Matt Higgins’ game against Russ Prosser, with Matt picking up 2 on the last end to win 20 (to win him MVP).” Best winner for Tanworth was Willie Jeynes 12.

The other three games were 7-3 home wins with Moor Lane being the happiest as they got 3 at the home of the champions the Greville Arms. Jack Whitehead led the way winning 10 to earn him MVP, while the holders had Ash Bracken their best winner 3, but Steve Wallace earned MVP for his 10 win. Newly promoted M&B Cheslyn Hay beat Willenhall Nordley to earn a solid start. Captain Steve Davis led the way winning 7 while Gordon Hawkins won MVP for his 9 win. Steve Bodley was best for the visitors 13 while captain Scott Simpson was MVP 16. St Georges beat King George V with Lewis Scott being best winner and MVP for his 6 win, with the visitor’s best wins being Andy Gibbs and Jason Galvin 16, but Neil Harrell earned MVP for winning 20.
