Gameweek 3 Review – Division 1

Four big home wins this week

There were four big home wins in Gameweek 3 of Division 1 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. There were three 9-1s with only Castlefields managing to get more than a single winner away from home, scoring 2 at Baddesley. Captain Mark Taylor admitted he is “slightly disappointed that we didn’t come away with more winners. We wanted three away winners if I’m honest. With the restructuring over the close season, this was the first time on their green for quite a few of us, only a couple had played on there before.” Adrian Rowe was best winner 10 but new signing Mal Palmer was MVP for Castlefields for getting 15. For the home side it was a much needed big home win after a disappointing opening two weeks, with Tyler Dewis their best 13 and Willie Beal getting MVP for his 14 win. Three Magpies beat Chadsmoor 9-1 with Adam Kirby best winner 8 and Ben Lynch earning MVP for his 12 win. Skipper Mitch Harvey said “we knew Chadsmoor wouldn’t know a lot about the green. We managed to win all of the close games to end up getting a great win against a side that will be battling for promotion. We look forward to the tough test in 2 weeks time.” Only Dave Rhodes was able to win, 16 to earn MVP too. Royal Oak and Windmill are joint top of the league after their second 9-1 home wins this season over Great Barr and Moseley CC respectively. Keith Knight was best winner for Royal Oak 8 with Louis Jones MVP for his 11 win, Joe Bown the solitary winner for Great Barr winning 15 for MVP. For Windmill Kevin Handley and Phil Chester were best winners 12, but Kevin got MVP. Gavin Dunkley was the single winner 15 but James Seville got MVP for getting 19. Penn and Ward End Cons had their game postponed.

Royal Oak and Windmill are joint top of the league while Ward End Cons are bottom of the league, two behind Castlefields. Glyn Storer is top of the League Averages, just three shots ahead of team mate Kevin Handley.
