Gameweek 5 Review – Division 1

Penn use home advantage, Royal Oak earn whitewash

Penn used home advantage well in Gameweek 5 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowling League as they beat previous table toppers Moseley CC 9-1 and then followed it up with a 10-0 home win over Ward End Cons as they went from bottom to just a point off top. Captain Rob Perry commented on the Moseley CC result by saying “Andy Jones was superb against his opponent in 3 quarter corners (to be best winner 5), Scott Harries was 9-8 up and ran out and Mark Jones bowled the crown very close on hard marks to claim MVP for us winning 8. For Moseley Scott Follis played very well all over the green and was deserved MVP (and best winner 9)” Against Ward End Cons and Penn continued their fine home form by taking advantage of a team missing several regulars. Andy Jones was relentless again as he was best winner 8 and this time took MVP, while Brian Phillips got MVP for getting 18 for the visitors. Royal Oak are still just top after they whitewashed Baddesley who are now bottom. Stewart Meddings was best winner and MVP for his 4 win while Jordan Baddeley got MVP for the North Midlands side for getting 17.

It was another case of all home wins as the other three games this week finished 8-2. Ward End Cons had a fuller side out on Monday and beat Castlefields with Scott Wallis best winner 11 and John Evans being MVP for winning 17. Keith Walton was best winner and MVP for the Fields 17. Chadsmoor defeated Great Barr with Cliff Johnson leading the way 5, to also earn MVP, while captain Bob Jones won for the visitors 18, but Eric Hall got MVP for winning 20. Three Magpies will be happy with their win over Windmill, with Adam Kirby MVP and best winner 4, and Kevin Handley 16 and Glyn Storer for the visitors, the latter getting MVP.

Royal Oak are top by a point to Penn, while Baddesley are 4 behind Castlefields at the bottom. Scott Harries is top of the League Averages with three others also having a perfect record out of the 5 games played.
