Three of our bowlers win their Merits

Two of our bowlers won their county’s merit on Sunday as Nick Wyer of Dudley Dell and the Greville Arms’ Darren Plenderleith both were successful. Nick won the Staffordshire Merit on Wombourne by beating Dave East of M&B Cheslyn Hay 19 in the final. Dave’s team mates Chris Ward and Reece Farr both were losing semi finalists, Chris losing out to Dave 14 and Reece to Nick 13. Chris beat Reece in the Playoff to get the third All England Spot.

Darren won the North Midlands Merit by beating Baddesley’s George Chapman in the final. Darren had beaten Karl Shanks in his Semi Final while George had a fine win over Paul Lamb of King George V in the other Semi Final. But all four, along with Mark Blackmore and Steve Pratt, qualify for the All England.

Another one of our bowlers won a Merit last week, as Carl Fielding from the Greville Arms won the Warwick and Worcester Merit by beating clubmate Ross Dunkley in the final 20 on Bradford Arms. Ross beat Steve Freer 18 and Carl beat George’s Elliot McGuinness 12 in the two Semi Finals. Greg Smith of the George, the Greville Arms’ Peter Dunkley, Dennis Herbert and James Seville of Moseley CC were the losing quarter finalists.

Summit Garage and the league would like to congratulate Nick and Darren on their success, along with those who qualified for the All England Finals.
