Gameweek 9 Review – Division 2

Stretton Anglesey new leaders but Woodfield earn good draw

Stretton Anglesey are new leaders in gameweek 9 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League after two big home wins. They defeated Willenhall Nordley 8-2 then the next night beat Short Heath Libs 10-0 to go four clear at the top of the table, being unbeaten since the first game of the season. Captain Paul Chamberlain said that the “green was very quick! It finished about 9.30 both nights with 1 game lasting over an hour and a half. Got to be happy with 18 points from the 2 home games. Unlike previous home games we got the close winners on Tuesday which makes a big difference, and the draw went well.” Darren Carter was MVP and best winner for the first game, winning 7, while in the second game it was Paul and Richard Worthington both winning 3, with Paul getting MVP. For Nordley it was Ian Whitehouse who won 17 and Mark Hall 19, with the latter winning MVP. Woodfield are now second despite earning a great draw at Netherseal, despite just having 3 winners. It was Chris Marshman’s 6 win which helped get the draw, along with John Newey’s 18 win for MVP. For the home side it was Elliott Laboure who was best winner 15 with Brian Jordan getting MVP for his 16 win.

Langley earned a 9-1 win over Sutton Park. Captain Sarah Beaman said it was “a fantastic win for us, as Sutton Park always run us close at home. But to have 7 winners and a 20 loser was a great result. We always have a great time with a top bunch of lads, although it wasn’t quite the same without Sharky.” Matt Beaman was best winner 11 with Kris Norgrove MVP for winning 19. Matthew Danks was only winner and MVP for the visitors for his win. Short Heath Libs earned only their second win of the season as they beat Baldwin 7-3. They were thankful to Craig Barker’s best win of 4 and Des Parsons’ MVP win of 14, as Shannon Kernick was best winner 7 and Lee Harvey MVP for his 11 win for the visitors. Broomfield bounced back to form with an 8-2 win over Wrockwardine Wood. Captain Darren Griffiths was MVP and best winner for his 3 win, while Jamie King was the same for the visitors with his 14 win.

Stretton Anglesey are now 4 points clear at the top ahead of Woodfield, who are 18 in front of Netherseal. Edward Wallis now leads the League Averages with 8 wins.
