Gameweek 11 Review – Premier Division

Nordley slay the Dragons, Greville avenge defeat

Willenhall Nordley won at St Georges to put themselves firmly back in the hunt for the league title in Gameweek 11 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They beat them 10-2, Paul Evans leading the way with a 21-5 card, but Mark Picknell got MVP for his 17 victory. Captain Pete Grimston’s best win of 16 was good enough for MVP but not able to stop the Dragons suffering their first home defeat, and now they will be looking over their shoulders. The Greville avenged their home defeat against Tanworth In Arden from last season by beating them 9-1 to remain top. Skipper Andy Nuttall said “a great win against our local rivals. They always come and play our green well but on this occasion we had some great individual performances to get the 7 wins.” Ash Bracken was best winner 8 while Steve Wallace was MVP for his 13 win. For the visitors it was Neil Clarke who was only winner 16, enough to earn him MVP. The George are second but will be happy with their 4 winners at M&B Cheslyn Hay. Greg Smith and Phil Clinton were best winners 12, with the latter earning the MVP award. Reece Farr was best winner for the home side 9, but Gordon Hawkins got MVP for his 12 win. West Brom FSC sit fourth now after getting three winners at King George V. Captain Rob Carter commented “the green was the heaviest green I’ve played for a long time. A lot of close games and didn’t lose by many. Tom Pritchard best player for KGV (he won MVP for winning 16).” Paul Ward was best winner for the home side 13, while for the away side best winner was Kevin Hickman 13 but Rob himself got MVP for his 20 win. Dudley Dell have moved into mid table security after beating Moor Lane 8-2, with Steve Shaw best winner and MVP 21-3. For Moor Lane, it was Ashley Hickman 17 and Jack Whitehead 18 who both won, with Jack getting MVP.

The Greville Arms are top by 4 to the George, who are three ahead of Nordley. King George V are now just a point off M&B Cheslyn Hay, but having played a game more, and four behind Moor Lane. Elliot McGuinness is 10 out of 10 now after Ryan Prosser lost his first game of the season.
