Great Barr get first away win, Royal Oak win big again
Great Barr got the first away win of the season in Gameweek 11 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League Division One. They won 8-4 at Ward End Cons, delighting captain Bob Jones. “We were looking forward too as it is a green we know well and play on regularly. A good team performance, every shot was hard won and excellent performances from Luke Hall (best winner 7) , Craig Dugdale and Andy Sprason (MVP 21-16).” Home captain Marc Franks won 3 to be best winner and MVP, but it wasn’t enough as they lost out by 4 chalks. Royal Oak are still banging in the good home wins as they beat Castlefields 9-1. Spokesman Stewart Meddings comments” Royal Oak got off to a great start with a 21-7 win (MVP) for Louis Jones against Jon Palmer who usually plays the green well. Wins for Stewart Meddings 17 and Keith Knight 14 were followed by a close game between Dane Hopwood and Keith Walton which finished with Dane getting home 21-19. Back four began with Adrian Rowe for Castlefields playing a green he hadn’t seen before particularly well winning to 17 (to win MVP). A good battle between last year’s league average winner David Scriven and Callum Wraight with David finally edging it 21-15. The Royal Oak ended the night with 2 more winners Adam Hopwood 21-6 (to be best winner) and Martin Perks 21-14.”
Three Magpies are 2nd after beating Baddesley 8-2. They had four single figure winners, with John Beet the best of them 2, earning him MVP, while for the visitors it was Tyler Dewis who was best winner and MVP for winning 15. Penn also won 8-2 to keep them in reach of the top. They beat Windmill with Andy Jones ending Glyn Storer’s unbeaten start in incredible fashion, beating him 6 to be best winner and MVP. For the visitors it was the two Handleys who won, Kevin 15 and Darrell 16, the latter getting MVP. Moseley CC will also be happy at getting 4 at Chadsmoor, with Ron Regan MVP and best winner 14, while for the home side it was Cliff Johnson who was best winner 5 and captain Kevin Keary MVP for winning 10.
Royal Oak lead by 5 with a game in hand over the Three Magpies, who are 2 ahead of Great Barr. Baddesley and Chadsmoor are now level on points, with Castlefields a further two ahead, but Chadsmoor have a game in hand on them both. Despite his loss Glyn Storer leads by one win to Scott Follis.
