Stretton stun Woodfield, Nordley and Netherseal win big
Stretton Anglesey stunned Woodfield as they won 8-4 at their green in Gameweek 11 of Division 2 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. The result also means they are now top of the table, leaving captain Paul Chamberlain delighted. “Obviously very pleased with the result. A big winner in the first four and another in the back four sealed it for us. Puts us in a good position but still need a good result next week.” Darren Carter was best winner and MVP for them 5, while for the home side it was John Newey who was likewise with his 8 win. Nordley and Netherseal closed the gap on the top two with 9-1 wins over Langley and Broomfield respectively. Nordley captain Bill Pitt commented “Another good solid performance at home against a Langley side who struggled a little with the green conditions. We were unlucky not have a clean sweep when a fortuitous bowl at 20 across denied us that reward. We just need to find a bit of away form to match our respectable home form to hopefully rally a late challenge for promotion.” Mark Clayton was best winner 3, but Richard Bate got MVP for his 12 win. Matt Beaman was the only winner for the away side, earning him MVP too. Netherseal’s best card was from David Brennan 6, with Elliot Laboure getting MVP for his 10 card. For the visitors Broomfield, it was Joe Wilson who won 19 to earn MVP. Wrockwardine Wood will also be looking at the top two after beating Baldwin 8-2, Tony Garmson being best winner and MVP for winning 2. For the away side it was two Kernick’s who won, James 11 and Shannon 15, with Shannon getting the MVP. Short Heath Libs will be very happy with their 4 winners at Sutton Park, their best away result so far this season. Aimee Allcock was their best winner 17, with Craig Barker getting MVP for winning 19, while for the home side, best winner was Nigel Corbett 10 and MVP was Chris Sadler 19.
Stretton now lead Woodfield by 2, with Wrockwardine Wood a further 15 behind still. Nick Newey leads the League Averages on aggregate to John Dewey.
