Gameweek 12 Review – Premier Divisoion

King George V give themselves chance, Greville stay top

King George V have given themselves a chance of staying up in Gameweek 12 of the Summit Garage Premier Bowls League after winning at West Brom FSC 8-4. Captain Jason Galvin commented “we turned up knowing we needed to win on there so was a bonus that we played there on the Saturday. We got there early and 2 of our players had no bowls so that wasn’t a good start. The first 4 played really well we could have 4 winners. Tom played well to win 9 (to be best winner) and Neil Harrell who had no bowls played well to beat Rob Carter (18 to win MVP) . But Paul Lamb chucked his 2 bowls off last end when 19 across and Paul Ward was game on but Kevin Hickman beat a foot bowl 3/4 corners. It didn’t start to well back for 4 but Andy Gibbs battled back well to win 15 and I was 18-12 down and ran out to win the game, how I didn’t get MVP was a joke lol!” Rachel Bennett was best winner and MVP 11 for the home side. M&B Cheslyn Hay also enjoyed a good week as they got out of the bottom two with three winners at the George and then beating St Georges 7-3 at home on Tuesday. They only lost by 5 at the George, with Dave East their best winner and MVP 21-10. For the home side it was captain Elliot McGuinness best winner 11 and Ryan Prosser MVP 14, to keep them in 2nd place. On Tuesday and they drew level with St Georges, Jack Hill being their best winner and MVP 6, with Dragons captain Pete Grimston replying for them with his 21-12 card. They had got 3 at Willenhall Nordley on Monday with Lewis Scott their best winner and MVP with his 21-6 win, while for the home side Ross Edwards was best winner 5 and Mark Picknell MVP for winning 10.

Moor Lane are also on 55 points after beating Dudley Dell 7-3 at home. Paul Patrick was best winner 10 for them with Phil Whitehead getting MVP for his 11 win. For the Dell it was Steve Shaw best winner 12 and Ash Gregory MVP 16 as they sit in 5th place. Tanworth In Arden are now in bottom spot as they drew with the greville 6-6 who remain top. Captain Andy Nuttall commented the “Greville needed to keep the pressure on the teams around us – and we played the TIA green well – a good old fashioned game that went down to the last bowl of the night.” Chris Halford was their hero winning 7 to be best winner and MVP, while Neil Clarke was likewise for the home side by the same score.

The Greville Arms are three ahead of the George, and six ahead of Willenhall Nordley. At the bottom and despite their win King George V are two behind Tanworth In Arden, who are a point behind Moor Lane, M&B Cheslyn Hay and St Georges. Elliot McGuinness still remains unbeaten after 11 games, one ahead of Ryan Prosser.
