Three Magpies so close to win, Great Barr go second

Three Magpies came so close to an away win in Gameweek 12 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They got 4 winners at Baddesley but lost out by just one chalk. Captain Mitch Harvey comments “we turned up thinking we could give it ago but after 4 we’d had 1 winner to 18 and 21 behind. But we managed to have the next 3 winners and go 5 in front. Jamie Carter was last on the green and was fighting back from a load down. In the end Steve Davis stumbled over the line to with Baddesley the game by 1 shot.” Best winner for the home side was Richard Beal 12 with MVP being Carl Wilkins with his 13 win, while for the away side was Michael Lynch 10 who was best winner and MVP. Great Barr are now second after backing up their away win with an 8-2 home win over Ward End Cons, with Eric Hall best winner and MVP 12. For the visitors it was James Cosgrave Jnr who was best winner and MVP 14. Royal Oak stayed top with three winners at Castlefields. Keith Knight was their best winner and MVP 15, while for the Fields it was Doug Edwards 9 and captain Mark Taylor MVP for his 15 win. Chadsmoor are now bottom, with a game at least in hand, but got a good three winners at Moseley CC, 18,19 and 20. Dave Hayward was the best of them 18 to also earn MVP, while for the home side it was Grant Soller best winner 3 and Bill Kinchin MVP for winning 10. Windmill went above Penn after beating them 8-2. Spokesman Darrell Handley said it was a “good win for the lads on a tricky mill.” Kevin Handley was best winner and MVP 3, with Mark Jones best for the away side 10, but Scott Harries got MVP for getting 19 off Glyn Storer.

Royal Oak are two ahead of Great Barr with a game in hand, while Three Magpies are a further two behind. Chadsmoor are three behind Baddesley, and another three adrift of Castlefields, but with a game in hand. Glym Storer is still top of the League Averages, one win ahead of Scott Follis.
