Stretton go top, Wrockwardine Whitewash
Stretton Anglesey are now top of Division 2 in Gameweek 14 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They beat Langley 9-1 to go 6 clear at the top. Captain Paul Chamberlain said the “green was quick. Played well on the whole. A couple of close winners turn an ok result into a good one. Mark Nemedi played excellent to win his game (17 and earn MVP).” Paul himself was best winner 9 with Darren Carter, but Darren got MVP. Woodfield only got 3 at Broomfield to slip behind. Jonathan Blakeman was best winner and MVP for the home side 6, while for the away side it was Ian Carr who was best winner 13 and Nick Newey MVP for winning 17.
Wrockwardine Wood still have an outside chance of catching the top two as they have to play both in their remaining two games. They whitewashed Sutton Park, with captain Martin Gaut having to produce a big comeback to make that gap happen. “I was number 1 v Matt Danks and he played it tidy. He had good weight on medium length marks and every time I changed it he played a good’un. I virtually gave up at 8-19 and chucked it as far as I could, it was really heavy too. He had some good efforts that ran in the back or didn’t quite get in. Good game really(both earned MVP as Martin won 19). All our players played tidy, the green was both much heavier and rougher than the last few weeks but we dealt with it well. 10-0 was much needed as we have an extremely tough run in and need to win our two remaining home games to stand any chance of holding on to third place.” Best winner was Ian Delves 6. Netherseal and Willenhall Nordley’s faint hope of promotion are over after getting 3 winners at Baldwin and Short Heath Libs respectively. Steve Leivers was best winner and MVP for Netherseal 14 while for the home side it was Emily Kernick best winner 9 and Paul Whitcombe MVP for his 14 win. At Short Heath Libs it was Craig Barker and Aimee Allcock who were best winners 4, with the latter taking MVP. For Nordley it was Jack Picknell and Paul Bailey who both won 8, Paul getting the MVP award too.
Stretton Anglesey are 6 ahead of Woodfield, who are 17 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood in 3rd. Craig Barker is top of the League Averages ahead of Nick Newey and John Dewey on aggregate.
