Gameweek 16 Review – Division 1

Moseley clear, Royal Oak back in it

Moseley CC have a 5 point lead going in Gameweek 16 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League after beating Ward End Cons 7-3. Captain Nick Peters was best winner 7 with Grant Soller MVP for winning 8 For Ward End Cons, who aren’t clear of relegation just yet, John Evans was best winner 10 with Gary Weetman MVP for winning 19. Royal Oak are now in second place after getting three winners at Three Magpies and four winners at Penn. Spokesman Stewart Meddings said “On Monday night we were hopeful of getting a few winners at Maggies as we won on there in our W&W game earlier this season. Dane Hopwood played superb to get our first one with a single figure win (best winner 6 to be MVP) and Keith Knight battled it out to get over the line whilst the others were struggling against good players. Dave Scriven played consistent all game to get our third point of the night. The last 3 really found it tough going and scrambled a few shots towards the end but not enough to get another winner.” Gareth Herbert was best winner 9 for the Three Magpies and Steve Sterland MVP for his 11 win, which puts them a point behind the Royal Oak. Onto Tuesday and Stewart commented “our visit to Penn on Tuesday was a game that could’ve gone either way and came down to the last few bowls with us being 7 down on the board and last game on was 18-11 up. Unfortunately it ended 21-18 which got us our 4th winner but lost out on the aggregate. All still to play for in last two matches.” Jason Meddings was best winner and MVP for them 12. Mark Jones and Scott Harries both won 13 to be best winners for Penn, with Scott getting MVP. Penn had got 4 on Baddesley the night before to put themselves in the battle for promotion. Scott Harries was best winner and MVP again 13, with Phil Brown best winner for the home side 10 and George Chapman MVP for winning 18. Castlefields built on their away win on Great Barr by beating them 8-2 at home. Keith Wall was best winner and MVP 6, with Andy Sprason the same for the away side 13, who are still in the hunt. Windmill won 8-2 at home to Chadsmoor to give themselves an outside chance of promotion. Spokesman Darrell Handley said “it was a great game 8-2 which did not reflect how close it was. Chadsmoor played well and deserved more.” Kevin Handley was best winner 4 with Glyn Storer MVP for winning 18. Cliff Johnson was best winner 9 for the visitors, with Dave Rhodes getting MVP for scoring 19, as they still sit in the second relegation place.

Moseley CC are five ahead of Royal Oak, who are a point ahead of Three Magpies. At the bottom and Baddesley are two ahead of Chadsmoor with a game in hand, with a statement about that game to be issued tomorrow. Ward End Cons are 14 ahead of Baddesley. Glyn Storer leads the top of the league averages by a win to team mate Kevin Handley.
