Ray Leath Open 1st Qualifying Weekend Preview

The Ray Leath Open starts tomorrow and there are some cracking ties on the opening qualifying day. Callum Wraight of Castlefields and Greg Smith from the George feature on the opening morning, playing young guns Sam Millward from the George and Conor Chamberlain of Stretton Anglesey. There are plenty of other players from our league playing at Willenhall Nordley. Stretton Anglesey’s title winning captain Paul Chamberlain plays Tom Roden, who has played one game for the George, with team mates John Dewey and Darren Carter taking on Baddesley’s Jordan Baddeley and the Greville Arms’ Darren Plenderleith respectively. King George Vs Paul Lamb plays Nick Wyer of Dudley Dell, while Nick’s team mate Nathan Dawes is against Mark Burdett. M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Reece Farr has impressed in his debut season in the league and plays Matt Horton.

The evening session has plenty of talent on show too. Pete Farmer is the top man in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League at the moment and has a tough tie against Steve Wallace of the Greville Arms first up. Other Shropshire players on show include St Georges’ Colin Beaman against Nigel Egan, Andy Duckett of Castlefields is against Richard Dandy and Clay Flattley of St Georges plays Lee Hulse of M&B Cheslyn Hay. Jon Palmer has played for Castlefields this season and plays Jamie Holdcroft first of all. Dave Clarke and Willie Jeynes of Tanworth In Arden take on Craig Baugh, who captained the Sir John Bayley side in the league last year, and Adam Walker respectively. Netherseal’s Dan Petcher plays Jack Hill of M&B Cheslyn Hay in the remaining tie.

There will be hot and cold food available as well as refreshments.

Four qualify from each session.
