Division One Season & Captains’ Preview

Newly relegated teams Tanworth In Arden and King George V will be looking to bounce straight back up to the Premier Division. Both have kept their squads the same as they look to use last year’s experience to help them. Royal Oak were cruelly denied promotion last season and have the same team as last year. Windmill, Penn and Great Barr virtually have the same squads when they nearly got promotion last season, although Penn have added Rob Fuller, Dave Rhodes and Dave Lloyd. Ward End Cons are the other Division One side last year and could well struggle having lost Dave Room and Keith Wallis. Stretton Anglesey will look to make it back to back promotions, and have added Andy Milson and Adam Stubbs to their ranks. Woodfield have also added players to their promotion winning side last year, having got Stuart Edwards, Pete Cookson and Sean Lockley. Netherseal also came up, and will be looking to stay up in the division.

Aim for your team: I’m hoping to get promotion this season as I feel Penn BC belong in the top flight. We need to win our home games and we are more than capable of a good points tally away from home with the quality within the team.

Club: Royal Oak

Captain: Mark Rose

Aim for your team: Hoping to be competitive and give it 100%

Club: Stretton Anglesey

Aim for your team? Promotion. We really enjoyed last year, playing different teams and hope we were a good addition to the league. Whilst we are under no illusions that it will be more difficult this year, we have strengthened the squad and hope to compete for promotion. Much will depend on the on-going condition of our green.

Thoughts on your division? Very difficult for me to judge really as we have not played a lot of the teams but the league looks very competitive and there looks like being very few points between, possibly, a number of teams. I would expect very few away wins as last year.

Club: Tanworth In Arden

Captain: Stuart Bishop

Players signed: None

Players left: None

Aim for your team: Gain promotion back to the Premier Division.

Thoughts on the Division: Looking at the teams it will be a competitive league with lots of other teams looking for promotion.

Club: Ward End Cons

Captain: James Cosgrave

Players signed: None

Players left: Dave Room & Keith Wallis

Aim for your team: Going to be a tough season ahead, but we will do our best to stay up! However I think our season could be like Huddersfield’s, ending in relegation.

Club: Windmill

Captain: Phil Chester

Players left: None

Club: Woodfield

Captain: Nick Newey

Players signed: Stuart Edwards, Pete Cookson, Sean Lockley

Players left: Stuart Jones

Aim for your team: I think all of those 3 signings will be an asset this season and I would be looking for highly motivated contributions, particularly away from home. Of the players we have from last season, I thought Mick Hill showed me the sort of form I remember him being capable of many years ago, and I really hope he can maintain or even build on that. As captain, with the new players, I believe we can be pushing at the top end of the division and see no reason why promotion shouldn’t be a realistic goal.
