Stretton Anglesey earn away win, all other games home wins
Stretton Anglesey were the only team to win away in week one of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League after an 8-4 success on Penn. Delighted captain Paul Chamberlain commented on “a great performance all round I thought. Good wins 1st 4 for Ian Brown and Daz Carter, 19 from Neil Worthington, who may feel he should have won and good battling from Andy Milsom against Rob Fuller, who was their best player on the night (winning 10 and MVP). 2nd 4, John Dewey played well to beat Rob Perry (11 to be best winner) and Conor won 15 despite a spirited comeback from Mick Brown. Brian rode his luck to scramble 12 against Mark Jones and Adam Stubbs secures the agg from 19-9 down, getting 18 (and MVP).”
All the other games resulted in home wins. There were 8-2 wins for Netherseal and Windmill against Ward End Cons and Tanworth in Arden. Netherseal’s best winner and MVP was Andrew Fearn 4, while for the visitors it was Marc Franks 18. Windmill captain Phil Chester said it was “a good competitive game played in the right spirit. Windmill won 8-2 but six of the games were close. Neil Clarke deserved MVP for them as was very consistent all night. Steve Chapman was our MVP for running out from 20-13 down. I am pleased with the start as it was a potential banana skin for the first game of the season. We also welcome back Lee Cavill after a year out and two new bowlers in Dave Hayward and Stu Gittings.” Newly promoted Woodfield won 7-3 against the Royal Oak. John Newey was best winner and MVP 11, with Stewart Meddings best winner for the away side 15 along with Keith Knight, but Martin Perks was MVP for his 18 win. Great Barr won 7-3 but only by 5 chalks against King George V. Young gun Lucas Hall was best winner and MVP 9 with Jason Galvin the same for the away side 10.
