Gameweek 3 Review – Division One

Penn earn good away result, Tanworth make home advantage count

Penn earned a good away result in Gameweek 3 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They got 4 winners at Ward End Cons after losing at home to the same opponents just two weeks ago. Spokesman Rob Burroughs said “it was important we got a positive response after losing our opening two home games. It was a lovely green to play on and we did well to close out two close games in addition to the two Jones having dominant performances as Mark won 6 (to earn MVP) and Andy 9. They had four convincing wins for their winners so we are very happy to leave with a share of the wins.” Marc Franks won 1 to be best winner but Mel Jordan was MVP for his 7 success.

Tanworth In Arden had a great 9-1 win over Woodfield. Neil Clarke was best winner 7 with Dave Wolverson gaining MVP for winning 10, while for the opposition it was Sean Lockley the only winner and MVP 20. Captain Stuart Bishop commented on a “good team performance picking up 7 winners and unlucky not to get the full house. Credit to Sean who found a good bowl to win his match 21-20.” Royal Oak bounced back from their whitewash at Great Barr last game as they beat them 8-2. They had two single figure wins in Dave Scriven 5 and Dane Hopwood 7, with the latter gaining MVP. The visitor’s two winners were Jordan Patrick 19 and Andy Sprason 20, with the latter getting MVP. Netherseal beat the Windmill 8-2 with Richard Staley best winner 8 and Matthew Milsom MVP for his 10 win. The two winners for the away side were Stuart Gittings 17 and Darrell Handley 19, with the latter getting MVP. Stretton Anglesey got 3 winners at King George V in a close match, only 8 chalks separating the two teams. Captain Neil Harrell was best winner for the home side 7 but MVP was given to Brian Wilkes for his 15 win. Andrew Milsom was best winner and MVP 6 for the away side.

Windmill and Great Barr are tied at the top of the league, with King George V one point adrift of three teams at the bottom, but have played a game less than all but one of those teams. Four players have won 3 out of 3, with Neil Clarke leading by a single chalk on aggregate. Dane Hopwood and Darrell Handley are the only players to have won two MVPs sponsored by Mark Taylor Support Ltd.
