Willenhall Nordley & Baldwin win big
Baldwin and Willenhall Nordley both won 9-1 in Gameweek 3 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Baldwin defeated previous leaders Wrockwardine Wood. Captain Jim Kernick said “we played well as a team and dominated from the start. 56 up at the half way stage. We carried on with more solid cards and only Martin Gaut for the visitors, who beat Lee Harvey 19 and Louse Cotton who got a good 16 provided any real resistance. We ran out with 7 winners and a 79 plus. Overall a very solid home performance from us. No surprise in Martin Gaut gaining MVP for Wrockwardine and for ourselves Andy Boswell was awarded MVP. Another BH break next Monday and then another bye means we’re not back in action again until 20th May.” They had three 6 winners in Andrew Boswell, Jack Newsome and Shannon Kernick, with the former getting MVP. Willenhall Nordley beat Heath Hayes comfortably to get them back for their narrow loss at their green two weeks ago. Skipper Bill Pitt said “it was our first home game whereby we needed big points to kick start our season after 2 awkward away games. It is always difficult to get a full house in the Summit league but with just one 21-19 loser we almost achieved this. A fine home performance with an aggregate of + 62 shots was a great home start for us.” Mick Ledwidge and Wayne Jones both got best wins of 6, with Mick gaining MVP. Malcolm Gittings was the away side’s winner, earning him MVP.
Langley will be happy with their 3 winners at Short Heath Libs as their good start continued. Chris Lambert was best winner 12 but Mark Nemedi got MVP for winning 13. The home side had four single figure winners, Lee Hulse the best of them 4, and one of the others, Gary Bateman, getting MVP for his 9 success. Sutton Park kick started their season with an 8-2 win over Baddesley. Phil Bickley was their best 8, making him MVP, while the opposition’s two winners were George Chapman 9 and Mike Lynch 11, the latter getting MVP.
Short Heath Libs are three points ahead of Langley, with Broomfield bottom but only having played one game. George Chapman leads the League Averages by 2 chalks, with four players having won two MVPs to win the prize sponsored by Mark Taylor Support Ltd.
