Gameweek 5 Review – Division Two

Wrockites & Nordley win big, Broomfield & Baddesley earn 3

Wrockwardine Wood and Willenhall Nordley both won 9-1 in Gameweek 5 of Division 2 in the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Wrockwardine beat Sutton Park with captain Martin Gaut saying “I was very happy with the convincing home win over Sutton Park on Monday. After two difficult away fixtures at Baldwin and Baddesley it was good to get our confidence back with a convincing home win. Sutton Park’s winner came in the first four with Phil Bickley playing very well all the way through to win after a marathon 75 minute game (21-18 to be MVP). Good performances from all our team, it’s too difficult to try to single one out as the whole team played the green exceptionally well.” John Clarke was best winner 6 with Tony Garmson getting MVP for winning 9. Nordley beat Baldwin by the same score. Skipper Bill Pitt was “really pleased with our home performance and 7 winners which is what is needed to challenge for promotion in this league. 3 single figure winners and 3 half way winners also boosted our aggregate total which at the end of the season may count as an extra point. Shannon Kernick played a flawless game for Baldwin earning her a single figure win (6 to win MVP) and I felt that the rest of the Baldwin team played better than the score suggests.” Wayne Jones was best winner 4 with Bill himself getting MVP for his 6 win.

Broomfield and Baddesley both got three winners away from home at Short Heath Libs and Langley respectively. Danielle Newman was best winner for Broomfield 13 with Jon Blakeman MVP 14. For the home side it was Kris Johnson who was best winner 7 and Des Parsons got MVP for winning 18. Baddesley had Mike Lynch as their best winner and MVP 11 with Langley having Cameron Gurdas as best winner 6 and captain Sarah Beaman MVP for her 19 win.

Willenhall Nordley are two ahead of Langley and Short Heath Libs. Martin Gaut and Paul Rolls are two players who have won 5 out of 5, Martin having been joined by Mike Lynch with three MVPs for the Mark Taylor Support Ltd. award.
