Ward End win big, Tanworth close to reversal

Ward End Cons scored a big 9-1 win over Stretton Anglesey to move into second place in the table. Skipper James Cosgrave commented on a “very good win. Good team performance. Just need to try and get as many points now away from home, to keep us in with a chance for a good high finish.” James himself was MVP with his 21-10 victory, but Adam Weaver was best winner 9. For the visitors it was Darren Carter who was their winner and MVP 10. King George V are still clear at the top but had a scare in a 7-3 home win over Tanworth in Arden, only winning by 7. Tanworth captain Stuart Bishop said it was a “great game which went right down to the last few ends. Came out of it with 3 winners but with a bit of luck could have been 5 and an away win. Credit to their last two bowlers who came from behind to win their games. Great effort by all 8 of the TIA bowlers.” Tom Pritchard was MVP and best winner for the home side 12, while for the away side it was Matt Higgins 21-7 who was best winner and Dave Wolverson MVP for his 16 win.

The other three games were 7-3 wins for the home side. Penn defeated Windmill with Dave Rhodes MVP and best winner 6 with Vic Gray the same for the visitors 15. Great Barr got past Woodfield with Joe Bown best winner 6 and Bob Jones MVP 8, as Stuart Edwards was best winner 15 and Pete Cookson MVP 16 for the visitors. Royal Oak beat Netherseal as captain Mark Rose was best winner and MVP 21-4 and Richard Staley the same for the away side with his 9 win.

King George V are 11 clear of Ward End Cons, with Woodfield and Windmill a further three behind. Penn are 5 adrift of Stretton Anglesey and another point adrift of Great Barr and Royal Oak, but both teams have their game in hand to play on another date. Neil Harrell and Darrell Handley are unbeaten on 6 wins, while there are four players on three MVPs for the Mark Taylor Support Ltd award.
