Stretton bounce back, King George earn big win
Stretton Anglesey bounced back well from their heavy defeat last week by winning at Great Barr 9-3. It was a remarkable win given that only one of the team had played it before. Captain Paul Chamberlain commented “apart from Conor Chamberlain, none of them had even seen the green before. It was a great performance to be fair. A good night to be away!” Ian Brown was best winner and MVP 8, while Phil Wain was best winner 16 and Jordan Patrick MVP 18 for the home side. King George V kept a tight reign at the top with a 9-1 win over Woodfield. Skipper Neil Harrell said “first four Chris Bergin played very well against Stuart Edwards and Tom Pritchard was his standard top form (to be joint best winner 4). Heard that Chris Marshman played it very well for the away side (to be their winner and MVP 14) and I played well against John on a heavyish green (to be joint best winner and MVP 4).
Royal Oak beat Penn 7-3 with Dane Hopwood best winner and MVP 8. Scott Harries was best winner 14 and Gary Cooper MVP for this 18 win for the visitors who remain bottom. Netherseal also won 7-3 against Tanworth in Arden. Darren Staley was their best 14 but Matthew Milsom was MVP for his 9 win. Rob Recardo was best winner 16 and Dave Clarke MVP for his 18 win for the visitors. Windmill won 8-2 over Ward End Cons with Phil Chester best winner 9 and Darrell Handley MVP 13, while Adam Weaver won 17 to be best winner and MVP 17.
King George V are now 15 ahead of Windmill, with Netherseal another 2 behind. Penn are 7 behind Great Barr, who are 1 behind Tanworth in Arden. Neil Harrell and Darrell Handley remain unbeaten on 7 wins, with Darrell joining Dane Hopwood on 4 MVPs for the Mark Taylor Support Ltd. award.
