Windmill & Netherseal win big, Royal Oak go close

Windmill and Netherseal had big home wins in Gameweek 13 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Windmill defeated Great Barr 9-1 with spokesman Ian Roles commenting “an excellent victory, to carry on our good form. The front Glynn led the way winning 21-1 and Eric Hall was excellent for Great Barr deserved their MVP beating an in form Dave Chester 13. In the back four Stuart was in good form getting our MVP (winning 12) and Dave Hayward beat two tight bowls at 20-20.” Netherseal also won 9-1 over luckless Penn, who again came close to winning games. Ian Woodward was their best winner 7 while Darren Staley got MVP for winning 20. For Penn it was Mark Jones who was their winner and MVP 17 as they remain rock bottom. Woodfield had a great 8-2 win over Stretton Anglesey to continue their impressive season, and impress opposition captain Paul Chamberlain, who said “it was the best anyone has played against us in this league.” John Newey was best winner 4 with Bob Marsh getting MVP for winning 9. For the visitors it was Conor Chamberlain who was their best winner and MVP 15. Tanworth in Arden were also 8-2 winners over Ward End Cons with Barry Maskell Jnr MVP and best winner 5. Captain James Cosgrave Jnr was best winner and MVP for the away side 15. Royal Oak came close to pulling off a shock win at King George V as they had 3 winners and lost out by just 6 chalks. Keith Knight was their best winner 8 to earn MVP, while for the home side it was Paul Ward who was best winner 13 with Jason Galvin MVP for winning 15.

King George V are 14 points ahead of Ward End Cons, who are another two ahead of Woodfield. Penn are 9 behind Great Barr, and another 5 behind Royal Oak. Tom Pritchard and Chris Bergin have won 11 games each, with Tom also having won 5 MVPs with Darrell Handley for the Mark Taylor Support Ltd. award.
