Evans Trophy comes to Summit League Club!

A Summit League Staffordshire Premier Bowls League club has won the right to stage the biggest charity day in British bowls next year. St Georges saw off bids from a number of Midland rivals to host the 2020 Evans Trophy North v South Team Challenge, meaning the cream of British talent, both men and women, will be heading for the two-green Telford venue next year to play in the biannual tournament in memory of the late Mel Evans MBE.

His long-time partner Lynn Pritchatt confirmed the host club for the 2020 Evans Trophy will be St Georges in Shropshire. Lynn added, “I will be commencing work with St Georges in the coming days to produce an event project plan – we have a full 12 months to ensure every detail is organised to a high standard. My vision is that this bi-annual tournament eventually achieves the same status as the All England and becomes one that players and spectators alike will look forward to.”

Delighted St George’s spokesman Paul Beer said, “It will be an honour and a privilege to host such a prestigious event and we look forward to working with Lynn and her team in the coming weeks and months.” Celebrations will continue into the evening with a sportsman’s dinner being held at the St George’s sports and social club with an evening of entertainment along with a charity auction.

The first North versus South challenge match was played at Owley Wood in Weaverham,Cheshire in 2018 with the North earning victory by one shot. This year’s charity fundraiser will be a Battle of the Sexes event at Bank Park Pavilion in Warrington on Saturday 19th October. All proceeds will go to the Mel Evans MBE Foundation, which has John Parrot MBE as Patron, with an application in the final stages of development to be submitted to the Charities Commission in the next month.
