Gameweek 18 Preview – Division One

Battle for 2nd and relegation still on

There is a battle for 2nd place and promotion into the Premier Division in Gameweek 18 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Ward End Cons currently hold that position by a point to Stretton Anglesey, but face a trip to a Woodfield side that aren’t completely safe themselves yet. Woodfield are just three points ahead of Great Barr in 2nd bottom and can’t afford any slip ups themselves. Woodfield captain Nick Newey says “the match is a must win for us to avoid the drop. We have Claire Pugh and Pete Cookson both back again and hope that our home green can give us the advantage we need to get a result. We can’t take Ward End lightly as they need a result to stand a chance of gaining promotion. All the ingredients are there for a great match.” Great Barr are at home to as they host Netherseal, who could get promotion with a big win and other results go their way. Windmill are just a point above Woodfield and four ahead of Great Barr and know a home win over King George V should be enough to keep their place in the league. King George V have already won the title and can relax for the night. Stretton Anglesey know that a good home win should be enough for promotion if Ward End Cons don’t win at Woodfield, and they host Royal Oak, who if they win 9-3, could get promotion themselves if other results go their way. Tanworth in Arden, 5 points behind 2nd, could yet get promotion with a big away win at Penn, who themselves would need a 10-0 at least and hope teams above them suffer big home losses if they are to survive.

Gameweek 18 Fixtures:
