Gameweek 18 Review – Division One

Stretton earn promotion, Great Barr down with Penn

Stretton Anglesey earned the second promotion spot after beating the Royal Oak 8-2 to leapfrog Ward End Cons. Captain Paul Chamberlain was “very happy with the result against a good Royal Oak team. I thought we’d have a competitive team but am obviously delighted to gain consecutive promotions especially with the green being in such poor condition.” Best winner was Darren Carter 11 with Ian Brown getting MVP 15. For the Oak it was Mark Rose who won 10 and Dave Scriven 18, Dave getting MVP. Ward End Cons missed out after getting 1 at Woodfield, a result that secured Woodfield’s survival. Captain Nick Newey led the way with a 21-1 which earned him MVP. David Williams was the winner for Ward End 13 which got him MVP. Tamworth in Arden also missed out after just one winner at Penn. It didn’t avoid relegation for Penn, but spokesman Rob Burroughs said “it was our best result of the season but to little too late unfortunately. The two home losses at the start of the season killed us and we never recovered.” Best winners were Dave Rhodes and Mick Brown 10, Dave getting the MVP. Dave Wolverson was the winner and MVP for Tamworth after winning 9. Great Barr also we’re relegated despite winning 8-2 against Netherseal. James Parkes was best winner 2 and Andy Sprason MVP 11, while for the visitors it was Richard Staley 19 and Andrew Fearn 20 who were the winners, Andrew getting MVP. Windmill made sure of survival with a 9-1 win over league champions King George V. Dave Hayward was best winner 11 and Ian Roles MVP 15. Captain Neil Harrell was winner and MVP for the visitors 15.

King George V win the league by 7 points to Stretton Anglesey. Penn finished bottom by 4 to Great Barr, who were four adrift of Woodfield. Chris Bergin won the League Averages and Tom Pritchard the Mark Taylor Support MVPs.
