The Summit Garage Premier Bowls League announced at it’s AGM a significant increase in prize money for the 2008 season. Total Prize money is increased from £2,000 to £4,900 with the eventual winners of the Premier Division collecting the top prize of �1,000.

The league has been a phenomenal success since its formation just twelve month’s ago. Fourteen new teams have been elected into the newly formed division one which will carry a first prize of �650.

The committee of seven behind the formation of the league were unanimously re elected headed by President and sponsor John Newey. The remainder of the committee being – Mark Clayton (Deputy President), Mel Evans (Secretary), Nick Newey (Records Secretary), Lynn Pritchatt (Treasurer) plus Martin McGuinness & Mark Hall.

President John Newey said “I don’t think any of us ever envisaged how successful the league would become. It has snowballed into something which everyone involved should be proud of. We have developed a league which is innovative & forward thinking & that has been instrumental in its success”.

One such innovation saw league webmaster Paul Hickman inputting the draw live as it happened onto the league website Fixture lists were immediately printed & presented to each club before the meeting ended.

Staffordshire County President Mr Mac Pearson made the draw for the 2008 season. The opening games when the action commences on Monday 14th April are :-

The SUMMIT GARAGE BOWLS LEAGUE are pleased to announce they will be paying out record prize money this season totaling �4,900.

The league has been described by the BCGBA President as “The best thing to happen to Crown Green Bowls in this part of the country”. So if your club wants to be part of the Midlands top league then get in fast as the closing date of 1st OCTOBER is approaching.
