Nordley pile more pressure on Dell, St Georges halt West Brom’s good start
Willenhall Nordley piled more pressure on Dudley Dell as they became the second team to win on their green in Gameweek 3 of the Summit Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They won there 10-2 and delighted captain Scott Simpson said “it was a very good performance from 1-8, the lads who struggled managed to scramble and get their W’s. They are a very good home side and to come away with 6 winners is massive but we have to stay on it as they play our green very well too.” Young gun Dan Bodley shone as he was best winner and MVP for winning 12, while Nathan Dawes did the same for the Dell, winning 8. West Brom’s good start was halted by St Georges who picked up an excellent 8-2 win, suggesting their struggles of last year are gone. Skipper Pete Grimston said it was a “good team performance. Colin Beaman was unlucky to lose 20 (but did get MVP) as it was a good game. Clay Flattley was 12-3 down and came back to win. Green was running well so happy with result.” Rob Carter got MVP also for his game with Colin, while best cards were Lewis Scott for St Georges 8 and Steve Bennett 19 for West Brom FSC, who were without star man Greg Smith.
The other three games ended 7-3 to the home side. King George V earned their second home win of the same score as they beat Moor Lane who have enjoyed a solid start back in the Premier Division. Captain Jason Galvin led the way winning 9 while Tom Pritchard was MVP for his 9 win. Jack Whitehead earned another best win for the visitors with his 21-10 but Kirk Stevens got MVP for winning 17. M&B Cheslyn Hay beat Tanworth In Arden just by 10 chalks in a very close game. The best card overall was for Chris Ward of the home side winning 13 which earned him MVP while Barry Maskell Jnr was highest winner for the visitors 17 to also earn him MVP. The George will be happy with their three at Greville Arms with captain Elliot McGuinness leading by example again with his 14 win, but Russ Prosser got MVP for winning 20. Josh Hale was best for the home side 8, however it was Steve Wallace who got MVP for his 20 win.
Willenhall Nordley top the table by a point to Greville Arms, while Dudley Dell are bottom by three points from Moor Lane. Lewis Scott leads the averages with a plus 37 aggregate, with 12 players currently 3 out of 3.
