Greg Smith won a third Midland Masters title after defeating Conor Chamberlain 18 in the final at Stretton BC. It was another imperious day for the George bowler, beating Paul Lamb of King George V 10 in the Semi Finals and David Ord 9 in the Quarter Finals. He had defeated Mark Burdett 9 and Dan Taylor 12 in the first two rounds as well. Stretton Anglesey’s Conor nearly gave the home crowd something to celebrate as he reached his first Midland Masters final. He had beaten Chadsmoor’s Mick Ledwidge in his Semi Final 10, a welcome return to form for Mick who has endured a tough season. Conor had started off with getting past Daniel Edkins of Baddesley 14, then Lewis Scott from St Georges 8, Nigel Iliff 13 and Stuart Rutter 15 in the Quarter Finals. Paul Lamb started off by beating Jon Palmer of Castlefields 12, then Nathan Dawes from Dudley Dell 17, who had received a walkover first round, Adam Hartley 9 in the Quarters and George Chapman of Baddesley 7. Mick defeated Phil Lyttle 15, Joe Williamson 14 and James Southern of Netherseal 16, after James had got past Sam Millward of the George 12 and Peter Hulse Jnr 18. Sam had beat Baddesley’s Carl Wilkins 16 first game. Carl’s team mate George Chapman had a fine run to the Quarter Finals as he got past M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Chris Ward 11, Jamie King of Wrockwardine Wood 16 and then Dan Petcher of Netherseal 18 in a great win. Jamie had beaten Phil Clapham 13 first round, while Dan had got past Chris Gill 10 and Josh Bradburn 11. M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Gordon Hawkins reached the Quarters after beating Andy Ferris 15, Jon Lyttle 17 and Philip May 16. Clay Flattley of St Georges won his first game 7 against Baddesley’s Tyler Dewis, while Tyler’s team mate Ben Percival had a great win 1st round against Callum Wraight 13 before losing out to Nigel Iliff. Lewis Scott of St Georges also won a game versus Andy Runham 19. Willenhall Nordley’s Paul Evans beat Castlefields’ Mark Taylor 8, but then lost out to Anthony Lloyd.
