We have three teams in the BCGBA World Club Championships today, with two of them playing each other. Dudley Dell and Stretton Anglesey maybe in different divisions but it promises to be a close clash between the two. The Dell’s captain Nick Wyer says “I only know about Stretton through them playing in the League, they won their division comfortably last season. We know all teams that are there are there on merit and are dangerous, as always we go there to win and try to qualify. We have our strongest team possible so there are no excuses. We as a team have never played there before but have heard a few rumours off other teams that have played there about what it’s like. A few of us are in the comp there during the season so at least we will get some practice in for that at least!” Stretton skipper Brian Smith says “the competition is the one to be in and we always want to play in it. Most of our players have played in competitions so have match practice through those. We know they are a very good home side and a strong side, it will be a tight game. We are at our strongest, so there are no excuses.” The winners of this game will play Gladstone of Merseyside or Lancashire’s Ravine.
The George are our other team there, and the Champions will be taking a strong eight up to Spen. Captain Elliot McGuinness says “we’re taking a strong side tomorrow and are hopeful of progressing to finals day. Ryan and Gareth are clearly in good form following on their escapades at St Georges. Unfortunately we are missing Greg Smith but I’m really pleased with the calibre of squad we’re travelling with.” They take on Marehay of Derbyshire, with Paul Chamberlain having filled Elliot in on what to expect. If they win that game they take on Wolstanton of the Potteries & District or Castle Sports from Cheshire.
Good luck to all three teams from the league and Summit Garage.
Live scores will be here.
