Moor Lane earn shock win, Moseley bounce back
Moor Lane earned a shock 8-4 win at Willenhall Nordley in week 2 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. It was their best result since they returned to the top division of the league. Joint captain Jack Whitehead said “from having 2 winners the week before at Dudley Dell, I told the lads to give it our best shot on improving from that. We couldn’t possibly have had a better start with Adam Patrick coming off beating Scott Simpson to 11(to be best winner and MVP) which gave everyone a boost on and off the green. Once the first four had all come off we were up by 18 shots up. Paul Patrick was on at number 5 and was 18 10 then 20 13 down, to then come back playing superb second half to win 20. This was a massive card for us. Everyone battled for every shot Monday and we were very positive on and off the green. We are all going to have to focus twice as hard next week when we play them at our place as it’s a crucial first home game for us.” Best winner for Nordley was Dave Semper 14, with Ant Bracken MVP for his 19 win. The George got another good home win as they beat Castlefields 8-2. Marc Wilson was their best winner and MVP, while Callum Wraight was best winner 10 but Steve Freer got MVP for winning 17.
Moseley CC bounced back from their opening whitewash as they got 3 winners at Dudley Dell. Captain Nick Peters said it was a “real tough fixture away at Dudley Dell following our whitewash the week before at The George. Having not seen the green for over 2 years we knew we had a tough game on our hands. The green was fantastic compared to what we knew and had quite a bit of run in it so we all just got behind each other and played the green as we saw it. Some real good games and picked up 3 important points.” James Seville was their best winner 14, with Grant Soller MVP for winning 15, while for the home side, Nathan Dawes got both honours for his 1 win. The Greville Arms got 3 winners at M&B Cheslyn Hay with Darren Round best winner 16, but Ross Dunkley got MVP for getting 19. It was another good win for the home side, with Reece Farr best winner 7 and Steve Davis MVP 12. St Georges started their home season well with a 8-2 win over West Brom FSC. Colin Beaman got MVP and best win for his 21-4 success, with Rachel Bennett likewise for the visitors for her 14 win.
