Gameweek 8 Review – Division One

Tanworth & Ward End win big

Tanworth In Arden and Ward End Cons were the big winners in Gameweek 8 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Both won 9-1 at home against Netherseal and Windmill respectively. Tanworth captain Stuart Bishop commented on a “great result picking up 7 winners with nothing in the green due to the weather. Once again picking up more winners over the 2 games.” Dave Wolverson was best winner and MVP 6, with Dan Petcher the same for the away side 15. Ward End Captain James Cosgrave said it “was a very good team performance once again on Monday. From 1-8 we played very well. We need to keep this up as this season we are playing well as a unit and it’s showing in our performances and where we are in the league.” Mel Jordan was best winner for them 4 to also earn MVP while Darrell Handley was the same for the visitors with his 12 win. 

The other three games ended 7-3 to the home side. Stretton Anglesey defeated Great Barr with Neil Worthington 21-5 and Craig Dugdale 21-13 the respective best winners and MVPs 5. Woodfield had a good 7-3 win over King George V as the two Newey’s were best winners 12 but Claire Pugh got MVP for winning 19. For the league leaders it was Tom Pritchard who was best winner and MVP 8. Down the road at Penn and Royal Oak got 3 winners there with Martin Perks and Simon Wilcox winning 15 and Maggie Pailling 18, with Maggie getting the MVP. For the hosts it was Mark Jones and Scott Harries who were best winners 11, with the latter gaining MVP. 

King George V are 12 ahead of Ward End Cons, and another four ahead of Stretton Anglesey. Penn are three behind Great Barr and another four adrift of Royal Oak. Neil Harrell and Darrell Handley are still unbeaten on 8 games, with Darrell now leading the Mark Taylor Support Ltd. MVPs on 5.
