The Greville Arms could win the Premier Division title with 7 points at Castlefields in Gameweek 17 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Captain Andy Nuttall says “we are looking to pick up precious points tomorrow before the last game of the season away at the George, but it will be difficult away against a good Castlefields side.” The Fields will be looking for a good result to get 3rd. The George are at home to Moor Lane, and need a big result to give themselves a chance ahead of the last game of the season against their rivals. Skipper Phil Clinton says “we go into the game knowing only a big win and The Greville slipping up at Castlefields would give us a chance going in the last game. It can be a funny old game at times!” Moor Lane are another team going for 3rd, so need a good win themselves. Willenhall Nordley are battling them to and should get a good win against West Brom FSC after winning 10-2 there last week. West Brom are playing without pressure, but Moseley CC and M&B Cheslyn Hay are playing with pressure. They are separated by just two points but Moseley know an away win is needed to have a chance of survival. Dudley Dell and St Georges are battling for a top half spot and the prize money that comes with it.
King George V travel to Netherseal hoping to seal promotion. They had a shock loss at home last week so will want to make sure they don’t have another bad result. Netherseal could still get promotion with two good results. Ward End Cons sit second still and travel to Great Barr knowing an away win could clinch promotion, while Great Barr need a good win to try and survive. Stretton Anglesey have three home games left and know three good wins should seal promotion. Captain Paul Chamberlain says ” the green still not great but looking a bit better. After a couple of difficult away games where we came up probably 1 winner short in each, hoping 3 decent home wins will get us promotion.” Their visitors Tanworth In Arden though know two good away results, probably one win, could get promotion themselves. Penn are rock bottom and would need at least one away win to be able to have a good effort of survival. They travel to neighbours Woodfield, who are looking for a top half finish themselves. Windmill aren’t guaranteed survival and need two good home wins to do that, starting against the Royal Oak. The Oak could gatecrash promotion if they win both their away games, but will want to make sure of survival first.
Promotion could be sealed this week for Baddesley or Baldwin if they earn an away win. Baddesley travel to Heath Hayes, who are bottom but would know that their visitors won’t have much green knowledge. Baldwin, in second, go to Short Heath Libs, a green they played last season but wouldn’t be too familiar with. Home captain Tony Rhodes is “looking forward to a tough encounter with a good side Baldwin. Hope to finish our season on winning note.” Willenhall Nordley now know an away win is needed to catch one of the two teams above. Captain Bill Pitt says ” we are hoping to gain as many away points as possible in the last 2 away games albeit against tough opposition to hopefully stand a chance of promotion.” They have Wrockwardine Wood who are looking for a top four position. Langley and Broomfield meet with both teams near the bottom of the table and playing for local bragging rights.
