Week 15 Review

Greville shock West Brom, George edge out Baldwin

The Greville Arms shocked title rivals West Brom FSC 8-4 in week 15 of the Premier Division Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Captain Russ Prosser comments on a “great win for the Greville lads away at WBFSC, knew we probably had to win there and we did with a real team performance. Gone top of league now but only on shots so we’ve got to keep it going for the last 3 games. Its been a great fight for title in Summit League this year with just 3 points separating top 5 teams.” Best winner and MVP was Darren Plenderleith 21-8 with Greg Smith best winner and MVP for the hosts by the same scoreline. The George also won 8-4 at Baldwin to stay level with the Greville at the top. Recently married skipper Elliot McGuinness (congratulations to Elliot) says it was “a great win on a green we haven’t got the best track record on. Special mention to Phil Clinton who was brilliant in beating Shannon Kernick (17 to be MVP). I still think we’re second favourites going into the last three games but it’s great to still be in the reckoning with only a few games left.” Nathan Dawes was their best winner 9 with John Beet best for the home side 13 and Nathan Crocombe MVP for winning 14.

Willenhall Nordley made it 3 away 8-4 victories by doing so on Tanworth in Arden. Spokesman Paul Evans commented on a “good performance as a team Monday night, everyone battled for every shot and it was great to get our first away win of the season although it may be a little too late to have an effect on the title challenge. TIA are a great bunch of lads and we wish them all the best for the last few games.” Kevin Hocknull was best winner 7 and Paul Evans MVP for winning 11. Rob Foster was best winner and MVP for the hosts 11. Moseley CC took advantage of the two teams below them losing by getting 5 winners at Boldmere Sports & Social in a 5-5 result. Nick Peters was best winner 12, and Adam Kirby MVP for winning 20. Paul Freeth was best winner 10 and Michael Lynch Jnr MVP for winning 13 for Boldmere. Title challengers Stretton Anglesey beat fellow challengers Triplex 7-3. Andy Milsom was best winner 10 and Brian Barrass MVP for winning 11. For the away side it was Chris Baker best winner 11 and Steve Darling MVP for winning 13.

The Greville Arms and the George are level on points, with Stretton Anglesey one point behind and Triplex and West Brom FSC another two behind. Tanworth in Arden are 5 behind Baldwin and another 5 adrift of Moseley CC at the bottom. Elliot McGuinness is 2 wins at the top of the League Averages with 3 games to go, and 6 players are on 4 MVPs.
