Atherstone stun Champs, Moseley earn draw, Stretton win away again
Atherstone Cons stunned the Champions the George to inflict a first home defeat since 2019 in week 10 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. They won there 8-4, the two Lynches leading by example, Ben best winner 11 and Michael Lynch MVP 12. Adam Patrick was best winner and MVP for the home side 11. Moseley earned an impressive draw at Willenhall Nordley to continue their good season. Captain Scott Saunders said it was a “great result, 5 really good winners, and a great draw from Nordley with Kevin Hocknull 10 across with Alex Harrison and needing to run out which he did to draw the game. Anthony Bracken didn’t give me much chance (to be best winner and MVP 5), Gavin Dunkley was 17-2 up (and best winner 9) and Adam Kirby 20-10 up in the last four so Nordley were happy with the draw.” Bill Kinchin was MVP 13.
Stretton Anglesey got another away win, this time 9-3 at Windmill. Captain Paul Chamberlain said “perhaps a good night to be away but, nevertheless, a very good performance at a very difficult place to win. Onto the George now without our best player being allowed to play!” Lewis Belcher was best winner 9 and John Dewey MVP 19. For the Mill it was Dave Hayward best winner and MVP 7. Tanworth in Arden got a vital win at the bottom as they defeated the Greville Arms 7-3. Mark Williams was best winner and MVP 12, while Pete Dunkley was best winner 13 and Josh Hale MVP 18 for the away side. West Brom FSC continued their good form with a 8-2 victory over M&B Cheslyn Hay, Greg Smith leading the way 5 and Chris Watts getting MVP for winning 16. For M&B Dan Edkins was best winner 17 and Kevin Keary MVP for his 18 win.
The Greville Arms are level with Stretton Anglesey, with the George 5 behind with a game in hand. Tanworth in Arden are 4 adrift of M&B Cheslyn Hay with a game in hand, and another 6 behind Windmill. Scott Follis leads the League Averages on 9 wins, with him also being on 4 MVPs with four other players.
