Taylor Support Free Press Cup Finals Day Preview

Triplex travel to Littleover tomorrow looking to win the Taylor Support Free Press Cup. But they face opposition from three of our former teams.

Triplex take on our former winners King George V in the Semi Finals on the big green. Triplex name a strong team including Steve Darling and Chris Baker hoping to build on a solid debut season in the Premier Division. King George V spokesman Chris Bergin says “KGV are excited to be taking part in the final stages of the 2025 Free Press Cup. The FPC is a magnificent trophy and a competition the club have a great affinity for. KGV have won the competition on 3 previous occasions, each still very fresh in the memory of players and supporters in attendance being amongst the greatest of the many successes of the club. Looking forward to Sunday a highly competitive semi final against local rivals XXX is anticipated with nothing being taken for granted. The KGV team will be missing a couple of key players on the day but the opportunity for club legends like Andy Wright and Gary Pritchard to feature and show they can still mix it with the best is brilliant. KGV still have some big guns in their team, Paul Lamb is one of the best in the game and he will be backed up by the experienced Andy Gibbs, Jason Galvin, Chris Bergin and Neil Harrell. Ben Lynch has been nothing short of brilliant since joining the club 2 years ago and is a formidable opponent for anyone. Youth and experience make up the KGV 10. Ian ‘The Ledge’ Hickey has benefitted from the club’s recent move to Selly Park Tavern and will give his all for the cause. Ben Pritchard has done fantastically well to earn his place in the first team in a breakthrough season. Ben will relish the chance to pull on the club shirt in a major cup finals day and follow in the family footsteps of Mick, Tom, Dave, Lloyd and Bev who will always be known as the heartbeat of this proud club.”

Atherstone Cons take on favourites Castlefields on the small green, with both teams looking to win it for the first time. Captain Jordie Baddeley says “Atherstone Cons go into the day as outsiders of the 4. With very limited team experience of the big occasions. Led by captain Jordie Baddeley they go into the day looking to cause an upset. Andy Wood will be looking to add another scalp to his growing collection of county bowler wins. Phil Philbin will be more than relaxed in his game, can’t tell if he is winning or losing but you won’t find a happier person to be there.” Castlefields won the Super Cup last year, and this is probably the last remaining trophy they haven’t won in their illustrious history. Skipper Steve Peach says “we are looking forward to tomorrow’s Free Press finals day, a trophy I believe Castlefields have never won. We’ve got a full team travelling except for Tommy Palmer who is unfortunately on holiday so hoping for a fantastic finish to the season.” The Fields name a strong team including recent Shropshire Champion of Champion Callum Wraight, as well as BCGBA Champion of Champions winner Ash Wellings.
