St Georges face a tough test as they entertain the George in Gameweek 6 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League Premier Division. Captain Pete Grimston knows it will be a “tough home game against a good side. We just need to win at home, any win will as they do play our green well.” The Champions have been excellent so far this season and will want to stay top of the league. The Greville Arms are nine points behind and will look to make up that gap at home to Moseley CC, where they won at two weeks ago. Moseley though need the points to stop them being cut adrift at the bottom of the league. They are a point above West Brom FSC who entertain M&B Cheslyn Hay. West Brom need a good win to catch up with those teams above, while M&B will want to continue their positive start to the season. Willenhall Nordley lost their last home game and will want to avoid that happening again if they are to match their top three finish of last season. However they play a Dudley Dell side with plenty of green knowledge and have started much better than last season. Castlefields are sitting in 2nd place at the moment but go to a Moor Lane side who are in 7th but only 5 points behind. Both teams have done well so far so this could be a high quality game.
Penn will look for their first win of the season as they entertain Windmill. They have lost both their home games so far, and spokesman Rob Burroughs knows “it’s a must win game for us after our two home losses so far. They know our green well and played it first game of the Staffs season so we have to play well to get a good result which we can build on to start moving up the table.” The visitors have started well and sit in 3rd, and know their away form was what let them down last season. Great Barr are near the bottom and entertain Woodfield knowing a good home win is needed. The Woodies have started well themselves and sit in 2nd, so will fancy a good result there. The Royal Oak have the same numbers of points as Great Barr and are at home to Netherseal. Skipper Mark Rose knows it will “be another tough game in a very competitive division, but as always we will give it our best shot, win or lose.” Netherseal have had an average start to the season, but know away points will be critical to where they finish. King George V sit top of the league after two remarkable away wins and will not want to waste that as they entertain Tanworth In Arden. Tanworth though will want to make up for that loss.
Willenhall Nordley will look to keep their place at the top of the table as they travel to Baldwin. Captain Bill Pitt says “hopefully we can take our current good form into our away game with the Baldwin. Whilst we came away with most of the spoils from our home game we are only too well aware that the Baldwin will be seeking revenge on a green that we do not see too regular. We are looking forward to the game Monday night and hoping we can come away with some valuable points against a good competitive side.” Baldwin have already had the bye so will want to start making up good points on the teams above them. Langley are in 2nd place and go to Baddesley. Langley have had a better start than last season but will not know too much about their green. Captain Phil Brown says he is “looking forward to a tight game with a few on holiday. Green in better shape so fingers crossed.” The home side have had a good start to the season and will look to continue that as they look for an instant return to Division One. Short Heath Libs travel to Broomfield which will be their first home game of the season. Broomfield will be eager to start their home campaign well while Short Heath will want to at least match the three winners that Broomfield got on their green. Wrockwardine Wood have started well at home but struggled away so far as they travel to Sutton Park. The Park have kept up their good home form from last season and will look to maintain that.
