Week 1 Preview – Premier Division

George face returning players, M&B start with tough home game

The George will be welcoming some returning faces in week 1 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Russell and Ryan Prosser will be returning with the Greville Arms, who will start this season as favourites because of those two signings. Jon Palmer has gone the opposite way but the George have lost others this season as they look for a fourth straight title. West Brom FSC finished 3rd last season after being title challengers most of the season, and will know an away win at Moseley CC will set an early marker this season. Moseley will know home form will be key if they are to keep their place in the Premier Division once again. Triplex were champions of Division One last season and will open their maiden Premier Division campaign at home to Windmill, a team that will have limited knowledge of their green. The Mill survived last season despite a poor home green but will be wanting to push on given their green is in much better condition. M&B Cheslyn Hay also earned promotion last season and plays local rivals Willenhall Nordley first up. Spokesman Aaron Tapper says “all the games are tough in this league as we know, non more so then opening up to our neighbours Nordley who play our green well. We worked hard last year to be back in this position and look forward to the challenge.” Nordley will be wanting to push on from their 5th place last season and break into the top 3.

Stretton Anglesey have moved their game to the 6th May against Baldwin.
