Gameweek 7 – Division One

Baddesley finally earn big home win, All home wins again!

It was another week of home wins in Division 1 of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League but Baddesley will be the happiest after finally earning their first big win of the season. They defeated Chadsmoor 9-1 which left spokesman Harry Chapman delighted. “No issues at home, visiting teams often have a tough time here because they don’t have much prior green knowledge. 9 points will hopefully be the catalyst to push us up the league a bit. The focus turns to picking up points away and making sure we’re not bottom again after the next round of fixtures.” Richard Beal was best winner and MVP with his 6 win, while Dave Hayward was the only winner for the visitors, his 13 win gaining him MVP too. Three Magpies also won 9-1 against Ward End Cons. Skipper Mitch Harvey “was happy with picking up 7 winners at home to a club that sees the green pretty regular. Steve Sterland from 14-3 down to James Cosgrave, who was playing superb (which got him MVP), managed to dig in to win 18 which was a valuable point we wasn’t expecting half way through the back four. It keeps us close in the hunt for promotion.” Gareth Herbert was best winner 9, with Ben Lynch getting MVP for his 13 win. Adam Weaver was the only winner for the away side, 15.

The other three games ended up 8-2 wins to the home side. Moseley CC defeated Castlefields by just 10 chalks, with Callum Wraight’s best win of 8 gaining him MVP and making the aggregate close. For the home side Scott Follis was best winner 13 but it was Gavin Dunkley who got MVP for winning 20. Penn will be ruing their three 19 losers at Royal Oak after Ben Dixon and Mark Jones both won 14, Ben getting MVP. For the home side, they will be happy they have kept up their excellent home form, captain Mark Rose the best winner 12 with Keith Knight getting MVP for his 19 win. Windmill defeated Great Barr with Phil Chester starring in his 6 win which earned him MVP. For the visitors it was Andy Sprason who was best winner and MVP, 16.

Royal Oak are 4 clearer of Windmill at the top, with Three Magpies a further point behind. Castlefields are bottom by a point to Ward End Cons and another point to Chadsmoor. Glyn Storer and Kevin Handley are the only two players 7 out of 7 now.
