There are 8 places up for grabs today for the finals day of the Ray Leath Memorial Open at Willenhall Nordley. Former winner Elliot McGuinness of the George takes part in the morning session, and plays M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Gordon Hawkins first up. Gordon’s team mate Chris Ward takes on Moseley CC’s Gavin Dunkley, wtih Gavin’s team mate James Seville playing Ashley Bracken of the Greville Arms. Ashley’s brother James plays Kevin Handley of Windmill, with another Greville vs. Windmill clash involving Josh Hale and Glyn Storer. Kevin’s son Darrell, also of Windmill, takes on young gun Lee Kington. Penn’s Jason Groom is up against Chris Baker of Tanworth In Arden, and the last tie is Matt Higgins versus Phil Cookson.
The evening session sees several young players looking to make their mark on the competition scene. Jon Palmer of Castlefields plays Jamie King from Wrockwardine Wood in what will be a tie with added spice. Jon’s team mate Mike Beer plays Adam Kirby of Three Magpies, with the Moor Lane youngsters, Adam Patrick and Jack Whitehead, taking on Stuart Rutter and Ben Mellor respectively. Dan Taylor plays Mick McGuinness of the George at the top of the draw, with Ivan Smout, who has played for Castlefields this season, and M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Aaron Tapper looking an intriguing clash. Pete Bound from Shropshire plays Jamie Webb, while Wayne Phillips is against Chris Marshman of Woodfield.
