Gameweek 18 Preview – Premier Division

Battle for 3rd, Moseley need miracle

The main issue to decide in Gameweek 18 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League is the battle for 3rd place. Moor Lane are currently there, two points ahead of Willenhall Nordley, but have an away game at M&B Cheslyn Hay, who aren’t completely safe but know that three points would completely guarantee it, and that would only be needed if Moseley CC won 12-0 at St Georges, which is unlikely in any case. St Georges could still catch Castlefields in 5th, who are four points ahead, and earn the final prize money spot. The Fields go to Willenhall Nordley, wanting to make sure they stay in 5th, but also knowing that an 8-4 win and by more than 7 would overhaul their hosts. Nordley know that an home win would more than likely get 3rd, but will want to get a big a win as possible to make sure they do get 3rd. Captain Scott Simpson says ” we are looking to close in on 3rd but will be a tough ask against a good Castlefields side. We know we have to play well to get anything out of these but we also know we have the side to do it. Looking forward to the game and hope to finish the season off well.” Dudley Dell could possibly get 5th, but would need to win 10-0 and hope Castlefields don’t get more than 1 and St Georges only get 5 points. They host bottom place West Brom FSC who are playing for pride in their last game in the Division for at least a season. The Champions the Greville Arms travel to the George knowing the pressure is off and both can enjoy their bowls.
