Ray Leath Memorial Open 1st Weekend Review

Half of the qualifiers were decided at the 1st weekend of the Ray Leath Memorial Open. Chris Ward of M&B Cheslyn Hay qualified after defeating Woodfield’s Pete Cookson 20 and then James Seville from Moseley CC 15. Adam Weaver from Ward End Cons had two fine wins over M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Gordon Hawkins 17 and Glyn Storer of the Windmill 18. The two other qualifiers in the afternoon session were Mike Tunstall, who beat Nigel Ferrington 11 and the Greville’s Ash Bracken 18, and Adam Cooper, who defeated Tony Eades 12 and James Bracken of the Greville 20.

The morning saw Mike Beer of Castlefields get through after beating Mick McGuinness of the George 11 and the Greville Arms’ Darren Plenderleith 12. M&B Cheslyn Hay’s Aaron Tapper got past Stretton Anglesey’s John Newey and Dan Petcher of Nethseal 15. Baddesley’s Mick Lynch continued his excellent season by qualifying, beating Ben Mellor 8 and Adam Walker 19. Ash Wellings was the final qualifier, getting past Danny Statham and Ben Lynch 19.
