Woodfield Open Finals Day Preview

The final of the Woodfield Open takes place later today. It is a quality packed field, mostly of our bowlers aiming to win this competition for the first time. Hot favourite is Greg Smith of West Brom FSC, who takes on previous Staffordshire Merit Winner Nick Wyer first game. Mike Beer is second favourite, and has Dan Davies first game, whilst inbetween those are Martin Gaut and the Greville’s Callum Mitchell. Completing that tough bottom half is Windmill’s Glyn Storer and Stretton Anglesey’s Rikki Higgs. The top half is full of class though, starting with Willenhall Nordley’s Paul Evans, who has a very tough opener against Ben Harris from Hamstead. Jon Palmer has already reached the final of a big competition this season in the Hadley Open, and has Lee Cavill of Windmill first round. Matt Gilmore is the one player from outside the Midlands and has Dan Bowater first up, while the other tie sees Nordley’s Dave Semper take on the George’s Phil Clinton.

Organiser Joe Dicken has said “this field is an incredibly strong one and I genuinely believe any one of the 16 players can go onto win on Sunday. Admittedly the green has not been in the best condition it could have been for the competition qualifiers. We have had a rough time on the shed edge and Rob is working very hard to get it perfect again. Apologies to the players about this, but the green has still been running excellent regardless. I have really enjoyed running this competition once again. Hopefully we can enjoy Finals Day and that everything runs smoothly.”

Hot Food available from 11:00am. Practice starts at 11:30am. Start will be at 12:00pm.
