Atherstone Cons continue good start, Mill win away
Atherstone Cons continued their great start to the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League by winning away 9-3 at Tanworth in Arden in week 4. Captain Tom Lea said “it was a good away win to continue our good start to the season. It’ a green where a few of the team had seen it previously and we knew we’d have to play it close to stand a chance. After the first four we were 3-1 up and didn’t look like losing from there. Everyone put in good performances even those that lost.” Willie Beal was best winner and MVP for them 15, while for the home side it was Simon Dreher who was best winner and MVP 14. Windmill also won away from home 8-4 at M&B Cheslyn Hay by one chalk. Skipper Stu Gittings said “the game was always going to be tight as the previous week showed they played our place well and our lot played theirs well also. We got off too a good start with Phil Chester playing some excellent stuff, Glynn Storer, although not tight bowls, some typical paddy marks and running out a good winner as well (both 12 to be best winners). The game of the day for me was Aaron Tapper versus Daniel Green with Dan taking a reasonable lead and Azza coming back to win 17, it only took 95 mins! Joe Green bowled really well (to win 17 and get MVP) and Lee Cavill did well to get what he did. The back four or 3 at the time were not great but stuck at it with Danny Statham just edging out Steve Davis, neither bowled to their best but a good game none the less. Then Alan Brown went on, he arguably won us the game last week from 16-3 down to get 15. His game against Dan Edkins as also a good game with Alan always staying in front with Dan pulling out a wonder bowl one end to prevent Alan from winning earlier. Alan then proceeded to do the same next end and eventually got it done and we won by the smallest of margins (to win 12 to be best winner and MVP). A great game played against a good side both on and off the green. They are a top side with a top green and it was how bowls should be, competitive, good banter and a proper sport.” Jack Hill was best winner for the home side 10.
West Brom FSC had a good 8-2 win over Stretton Anglesey. Ryan Hocknull was best winner and MVP 7, with Rikki Higgs the same for the visitors with his 14 win. The George will be very happy with their 4 winners at Willenhall Nordley, led by Marc Wilson’s best win of 7 and Ryan Prosser getting MVP for winning 20. For Nordley it was Scott Simpson best winner 5 and Kevin Hocknull getting MVP for getting 20 off Ryan. Moseley CC used green knowledge well to get 3 winners at Greville Arms, Adam Kirby leading the way winning 9 to be best winner and MVP. For Greville it was Nathan Caines best winner 8 and Carl Fielding MVP for winning 18.
Atherstone Cons are top of the league and lead by 2 points to the Greville Arms, with The George a further 2 behind. Tanworth in Arden are one behind M&B Cheslyn Hay and another 2 adrift of Moseley CC. Marc Wilson, Ben Lynch, Rachel Bennett and Danny Statham all have won 4 out of 4, while Scott Follis, Ian Brown and Mark Williams have 2 MVPs.
