George win league, Tanworth relegated
The George have won the 2023 Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League after whitewashing West Brom FSC 10-0 in week 18. Captain Elliot McGuinness says “we’re obviously delighted to retain the league this year in what has been a great battle over the course of the season. Commiserations to everybody that has missed out and a special mention to Atherstone Cons who had a great debut season. We never really got going on a Saturday this year but our final league standing on a Monday shows to me that when we get a consistent side out we’re a match for anyone. We look forward to going for three in a row and am sure next season will be just as competitive.” Best winner was Ryan Prosser 6, with Russell Prosser getting MVP for winning 16 against Matt Hocknull, who got MVP too. The Greville Arms missed out by a point despite a fine 9-3 win over M&B Cheslyn Hay. Pete Dunkley and Liam Lowery were best winners 12, with Darren Round getting MVP for winning 17. For M&B it was Aaron Tapper best winner and MVP 3. Atherstone Cons finished in 3rd place after getting 3 winners at the Windmill. George Chapman was best winner 15, with Harry Chapman 20. Glynn Storer was best winner and MVP for the Mill 7, who stayed up comfortably with this result. Stretton Anglesey finished in 4th place after a shock 9-3 home loss to Moseley CC. Best winners for them were Conor Chamberlain and John Dewey 16, with Conor getting MVP. For Moseley, who moved up to 6th as a result, Scott Follis was best winner 8 and Grant Soller MVP for winning 12. Tanworth in Arden were relegated after just two winners at Willenhall Nordley meant they went down on aggregate. Willie Jeynes and Matt Higgins were their winners 19, with the former getting MVP. For Nordley, who earned the final prize money place of 5th, it was Owen Evans best winner and MVP 8.
The George won the league by a point with Atherstone Cons 6 behind. M&B Cheslyn Hay finished 18 points behind Tanworth in Arden, who were 152 shots behind West Brom FSC. Ryan Prosser won both the League Averages and most MVPs.
