Week 1 Review – Division One

Park win away, Triplex start well

Victoria Park won away in week 1 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League 8-4 at Penn. Joint captain Gordon Hawkins said “we would have settled for 8-4 from the off but a touch disappointed having the last 3 losers with one 11-2 up and the other two losing 20. Good solid away performance though already matching our tally of last year! Green was in great condition, the weather making it a friendly pace though, which was obviously to our advantage.” Chris Lester was best winner 10 with Gordon himself getting MVP for winning 20. Reece Farr was best winner and MVP for the home side 7. Triplex also started well with a 8-2 win over Royal Oak. Skipper Chris Baker said it was “a very good start to the season with 6 winners and a healthy plus of 43. Royal Oak are an excellent side and raced into a 19 shot lead early on with wins from Dane Hopwood (best winner and MVP 11) and Martin Perks. Triplex fought back with the next six winners to turn the game around, Steve Darling with some exceptional bowling was our MVP (and best winner) winning 21-3. M&B Cheslyn Hay beat Tanworth in Arden 7-3 with Aaron Tapper best winner and MVP 10, and Matt Higgins the same for the away side 16. Langley beat Belmont Services 6-4, but will be thinking it could have been much more as they only dropped 8 shots. Darren Griffiths and Mike Tunstall were best winners 9, with Darren gaining MVP, while Lee Barnett was best winner and MVP for Belmont 18.
