Penn stun Park, Triplex bounce back
Penn stunned the league leaders Victoria Park with a 10-2 win there in week 10 of Division One of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Spokesman Rob Burroughs commented on a “incredible result there. We knew we had a good team out and could give them a game but to win there comfortably was beyond our expectations. The first four gave us a great start with Nick Wyer winning 8 along with Paul Edgington 15. Reece Farr just edged out Chris Ward at the death 19, and Sean Lockley did well to gain some vital chalks at the end to lose 16 to Gordon Hawkins. Once Darrell Handley had won 7 to be best winner, we knew the aggregate was safe. I managed to hold off a fightback from Pete Cookson to win 16 and reacher and green specialist Jacob Ash had a good run in the corners to win 15. Stuart Edwards was their MVP for coming back in the corners against Mark Stevens to win 17.” Rob himself was MVP for Penn. Triplex bounced back from their loss at the Park last week to win 9-3 at Royal Oak. Skipper Chris Baker said it was “a very good away performance by the whole team. We started really well with Paul Baller first off the green with a 21-6 victory (to be best winner). He was well supported by Simon Dreher 21-18 and Rob Recardo 21-17. Dan Baller also played really well and just ducked out 20-21 to give us a lead of 21 chalks at the half way mark. The back 4 did their jobs with 2 further winners, the best being Chris Bergin 21-8 (to be MVP) to maintain our advantage and get home by 21 shots.” Brian Wilkes was best winner for the hosts 12 but Steve Lediard got MVP for winning 20. Tanworth in Arden continued their good form with a 9-1 win over M&B Cheslyn Hay. Willie Jeynes was best winner 12 and Stuart Bishop MVP 14, with the winner being Joe Green for M&B 12 to earn MVP. Belmont Services leapfrogged Langley with a 7-3 win over them. Lee Barnett was best winner and MVP 4 for them, while Kaye Coulthard was best winner for the visitors 7 and young Stanley Beaman MVP for winning 20.
Victoria Park are two ahead of Triplex and another 5 ahead of M&B Cheslyn Hay. Stuart Edwards leads the league averages on 4 wins, and Steve Darling and Pete Cookson have 4 MVPs each.
