Greville earn draw, Mill get vital win
The Greville Arms earned a draw at Willenhall Nordley in week 14 of the Premier Division of the Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League to keep their hopes of the league title alive. Captain Callum Mitchell said “after a good home result last week versus Nordley we were full of confidence going into the away leg but knew it would be a tough night. Both teams played the green well and contributed to a great game where either side will feel they could of won.” Darren Plenderleith was their best winner 11 with Carl Fielding MVP for winning 16. Ant Bracken was best winner for Nordley 15 with Paul Evans MVP for winning 20. The George extended their lead at the top of the table though with a 8-2 success over Stretton Anglesey. Best winner was Marc Wilson 9 and MVP was Rob Carter 17, while Conor Chamberlain was best winner and MVP for Stretton 13. West Brom FSC lost out to the leaders too as they got 4 winners at Windmill, who got a vital win in their bid for survival. Skipper Stu Gittings said “a wins a win we required more but West Brom turned up with a good side it looked like 4-0 in front four but Mike Hill played well at death to beat Danny Statham. I didn’t really see much of the others. Jason Cooke started well (to be best winner 8) as did Dave Chester for us, and both myself and Dave Hayward did our best to get them interested in the aggregate in fairness. Chris Watts (best winner and MVP 8) and Greg Smith played well for them, while for us Phil Chester arguably the pick on the night (best winner and MVP 5). So still hanging in their but looking like we are sinking.” Moseley won their first match in 6 as they beat Baldwin 8-2 to ease their relegation worries. Grant Soller was best winner 10 but Scott Follis got MVP for winning 12. Karl Taylor was best winner and MVP for Baldwin 9. Atherstone Cons got an important 8-2 win over Hamstead to ease their worries too. Andrew Wood was best winner 4 and Willie Beal MVP for winning 7, with the two winners for Hamstead both 18 by Joe Bown and Andy Sprason, with Andy getting MVP.
The George lead the Greville Arms by 9, with West Brom FSC a further three behind with a game in hand. Hamstead are 9 behind the Windmill, who are 8 adrift of the Baldwin. Adam Patrick, Darren Round and Callum Mitchell are all on 11 wins, while there are 8 players on 4 MVPs.
