Moseley & Triplex start well
Moseley CC and Triplex both opened with 8-2 victories in week 1 of the Premier Division Summit Garage Staffordshire Premier Bowls League. Moseley defeated West Brom to please new captain Grant Soller. “We kicked off our season on a nice evening and on a cracking surface, the green was running well for the time of year. James Seville against Chris Watts at number 1 was a great game on paper but Sevi never found a consistent length and stuttered most of the game meaning Chris ran out 21-15 winner (to be best winner and MVP). The rest of the first 4 were fairing better, West Brom had gone strong with Mike Hill, Greg Smith and Andy Saunders making it tough for Billy Kinchin, Adam Kirby and Scott Saunders respectively. Billy was managing to keep Mike at bay always being 2 or 3 points ahead and ended up winning. Adam was playing very consistently and Greg didn’t take to the green too well on the night being uncharacteristically short a lot, this seemed to annoy him making him strike first bowl on occasion. Adam ran out a winner 21-15. Scott Saunders unshackled from the captaincy seemed to play a lot freer and smoother delivery saw him play well and Andy Saunders never really got into the game. 2nd 4 saw Gavin Dunkley take on Rachel Bennett for what seems the last 3 games we’ve played them. Gavin started well and always had a small cushion of 3 or 4 points which played out to be a 21-16 win for Gavin. Scott Follis played Matt Hocknull and Scott was his normal consistent self not giving Matt much of a sniff, he ran out tonight’s best winner 21-5 (and be MVP). Owen Dunkley was drawn against Ben Poxon, I didn’t see much of this game as I was on at the same time but it seemed a close game which could have gone either way but Owen just took it 21-19. Ryan Hocknull was my opponent and it was to and fro most of the game but Ryan played some good stuff near the end and took the game 21-18. Not the greatest start for the Moseley captain and vice but the team result we’d take all day!! Great start for the Moseley CC outfit.”
Triplex opened up their maiden campaign with a good win over Windmill. Skipper Chris Baker says “a good solid home performance with six winners to start the campaign. Excellent bowling in the first four gave us a comfortable cushion with all four winners, Dan Baller leading the way 21-9 (MVP and joint best winner with Dan Bowater). Winners were shared in the back four with two winners a piece. Two tough away games to follow at Windmill and WBFSC now.” Daniel Green was best winner and MVP for the Mill 11. M&B Cheslyn Hay started their return to the Premier Division with a 7-3 win over Willenhall Nordley. Danny Edkins was best winner and MVP with his 21-8 victory, with Dave Semper best winner 13 for Nordley and Richard Bate MVP for winning 19. The George will be happy with a 7-3 home win over the Greville Arms given their much changed team. Jon Palmer and Matt Price were their best winners 11, with captain Elliot McGuinness being MVP for his 12 win. For the Greville it was the returning Ryan Prosser who was best winner and MVP with his 21-4 win.
